Proto Paintball gun i use it in the championship games and i always win with it
Smart Parts Ion, Proto SLG, unless you want to woodsball, then get the A-5
the Tippmann A-5 is a very good gun for a beginner… not because it’s cheap or anything, but because it is reliable, very simple, and also has a Cyclone Feed System that feeds the balls in the gun like a motorized hopper, but instead of costing anywhere from $80 to $175, it’s comes with the gun.
For someone who just wants something to play the game with and doesn’t want to worry about it breaking on them, this is a fine choice.
Another gun you might want to look into is the Proto SLG…
This is a great gun for those want to play in a quick and fast paced game such as speedball games, vs. a woodsball game in the forest where a Tippmann A-5 would be ideal… but never the less, this gun will work just as good as any other gun in the woods(as long you don’t try to smash it). It has an electric trigger, which has multiple firing modes, such as single shot, 3-burst, ramping, and full auto.
This is a great marker if you plan on getting an electric trigger later on, and is the best speedball gun for it’s price.
TIP: keep in mind though that if you plan on shooting full auto with this gun you will want to get an electric hopper… otherwise your balls might huddle together inside your Non-motorized Hopper and not fall into the gun as quickly. Also, this marker will work much better whe using an Air System instead of a CO2 System which many beginners find their first choice(Air is better). this goes for an A-5 as well.
Yes I agree Proto is great I have a Proto SLG and it has been amazing 4 me.Its very very fast, lightweight and a perfect gun to start out with especially 4 tournys. I am actually selling mine 4 200 with alot of extras if your interested email me.
For that price range the two markers I’d recommend would be either the Tippmann A-5 or the Smart Parts Ion depending on what kind of paintball you want to play and your style.
If you want to play woodsball then the A-5 would make a great choice because it’s relatively small, rugged, and the cyclone feed runs on air so you’ll never have to worry about a battery dying.
If you want to play speedball the A-5 would make an okay choice but it’d need upgrades to speed it up to be competitive with other markers. If this is the case you might want to go with an electro instead. Check out the Smart Parts Ion. It’s fast, lightweight, and can hold it’s own against some pretty high end markers.
Other things you may want to consider is do you want a gun that will be great right out of the box or do you want to tinker with it to max it out. The A-5 has lots of upgrades that are easy to install (flatline barrel, egrip, response trigger, low pressure, etc) but that will get pricey over time. The Ion starts off at a higher level so you might not need to upgrade right away if that’s what you’re looking for.
And finally about full auto’s. It may sound cool but it’s kinda pointless since most fields wont even allow it for safety reasons and you’ll end up wasting paint and air. An A5 can be upgraded with the E-grip or response trigger to get semi-legal automatic fire. The Ion comes from the factory with full auto fire (10 balls per second) but in semi-auto mode a fast finger can fire 17 balls per second so that’s something to consider.
Whatever way you chose to go, enjoy the sport.
